Goals, visions, wishes? Do you know the difference?

What is your vision for your company? What is your goal for the next few years? What do you want?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve come across this question several times in my life. And I have often asked myself, what is the difference?

So today’s article starts with a definition of these important terms. Because without goals, visions or desires, our lives are either boring, externally controlled, unsatisfying or all of the above.

Let’s start with what is probably the best-known term: the wish

A wish is a desire or hope for something that you deeply desire but are not (necessarily) actively working towards. These can be material or immaterial things, such as the wish for a new car, for love or for success at work. Wishes are things that we would like to have or achieve and they affect us emotionally and can also change over time. Do you remember your birthday wishes as a child? Or what do you wish your friends for the New Year? Have all your wishes been fulfilled so far? Perhaps you would like to ask what your greatest wish is at the moment?

Our wishes often give us clues to our goals: the goal

A goal is a concrete and measurable result that you want to achieve by taking specific steps. It serves as a guide for decisions in order to make progress and achieve success. Goals can be chosen by ourselves or set by others. Goals can be found in all areas of life: Relationships, work, living environment, finances, health and spirituality.

There are some important methods and tools for finding and, above all, achieving goals. I use these very often in my goal coaching and will certainly share them with you in the coming blog posts!

But on to the next term: the vision

Your own vision describes an overall state in the future that you would like to achieve at some point. Vision is often equated with the personal meaning of life. In other words, the vision is what drives you in your business. A vision can be broken down into individual goals, which are milestones on your path to the vision.

So as you can see, all three terms are closely linked, but denote different stages along the way. In order to define your goals, you need an idea of your vision. Your wishes, in turn, give you an indication of your goals. If you want to find and achieve your goals for your life in order to turn your visions and wishes into reality, then my coaching is the right place for you.
