Have fun trying it out and living it!
Have you ever asked yourself about the meaning of your life? You can find the slogan “Find your purpose in life – then you’ll be happy” on almost every corner these days. I don’t know about you, but it always seems like far too big a hurdle to me when I read that. The meaning of life – something so big and intangible – I have to admit that in the past I was always quick to defend myself against it, believing that there was no such thing anyway.
Today I would like to use the Japanese word IKIGAI to show you that the meaning of life is quite easy, playful and within everyone’s grasp. Would you like to give your life a new foundation? Are you in the mood for joyful moments? Are you looking for orientation in life?
Then start with me in Japan – the country of origin of IKIGAI.
Where does “IKIGAI” come from?
生きがい — Ikigai is a word that comes from the Japanese language. The Japanese term is made up of the words IKI = life and GAI = meaning, so roughly translated it means “that which is worth living for”. The IKIGAI is still omnipresent in Japan today and on the island of Okinawa, where the oldest people in the world live, the IKIGAI is one of the central reasons for old age. So it does seem to have advantages (if you want to live a long time).
How do I find my “IKIGAI” now?
There are 4 central questions in the IKIGAI concept, which I also like to use in my coaching.
1) What do I love?
2) What am I good at?
3) What am I paid for?
4) What does the world need from me?
And it is precisely these questions that I would now like you to answer for yourself. And with fun 😊 In other words, freely, without judgment, without too much thought. As I said, the meaning of life doesn’t have to be difficult!
It is enough if you consciously deal with these questions and your answers once a day and live a small part of it. You will see that this already has a big impact on your life satisfaction!
If you would like to delve deeper into the method, please contact me. I would be happy to support you in the development of your IKIGAI as part of an individual coaching session.
